Performance-Driven Robust Topology Optimization of Functionally Graded Lattice Structures

Abstract This project aims to develop an efficient performance driven robust optimization framework for designing 3D printed graded lattice structures with considering random manufacturing uncertainties and defects. Undesired but inevitable manufacturing flaws in 3D printed structures remarkably affect structural performance, safety, and reliability, and can lead to severe damage or abrupt failure that costs billions of dollars annually and possible loss of lives. Expected outcomes include fundamental knowledge advance and new technologies in designing, assessing, and manufacturing of lattice structures. The project has a great potential to bring huge economic benefits associated with significantly improved structural safety, reduced cost, and enhanced capacities for industrial sectors in EU.
