SILOET Project 5 - Turbomachinery
| Abstract | The drive to reduce aerospace gas turbine carbon emissions demands advances in core technology to achieve increased shaft speeds and higher cycle temperatures. For the turbine, the increased speed and temperature require shroudless blade designs with more advanced tip clearance control capability, as well as advances in component design to withstand the increased temperatures with more efficient use of cooling air. To this end SILOET Project 5 will focus on novel designs that will increase the temperature capability of the HP turbine system. At these temperatures a low emissions (lean burn) combustor will also be required to meet acceptable NOx levels, further increasing the temperature challenge at the extremities of the gas path. In order to meet this requirement, work must now be launched to further increase temperature capability. |
