Goals

cylib’s remit is to develop and scale sovereign, sustainable Li ion battery recycling by establishing capacity for end of life batteries, battery production scrap and black mass, recovering materials for reuse in the battery value chain. Integrated end to end recycling yields high purity materials and recovers 7/17 EU strategic raw materials (Li, C/graphite, Ni, Co, Mn, Cu, Al) from NMC and LFP chemistries. Midstream, it bridges end of life flows to battery grade supply to manufacturers. Policy: Critical Raw Materials Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1252) and EU Battery Regulation (2023/1542); Circular Economy Act; Industry Accelerator Act. Impacts: EU strategic autonomy, less dependence on non EU refining, contribution to recycled content targets (6% Li by 2031; 12% by 2036), 80% GHG reduction vs mining, and 100% renewable operations.

EU Supported Forums and Platforms

cylib participates in the Cleantech Friendship Group’s official events, regularly contributing to discussions that connect European cleantech innovators with EU policymakers. cylib takes part not only as attendees but also through dedicated speaker slots, sharing cylib’s perspective on scaling sustainable battery recycling and strengthening Europe’s clean industrial value chains. Through this engagement, cylib supports the Group’s mission to accelerate the deployment of innovative clean technologies in Europe.

Communication Activities

cylib has carried out communication activities related to EU industrial and cleantech policy, in particular around the Clean Industrial Deal, the implementation of the EU Battery Regulation, and the Critical Raw Materials Act, with a focus on strengthening Europe’s battery value chain and scaling battery recycling capacity. These activities include public communications (e.g., social media posts and briefings) explaining and reacting to EU policy initiatives, highlighting measures relevant to cleantech scale-ups (e.g., demand creation via procurement/funding, de-risking and financing instruments, and faster state-aid processes). cylib also communicated about participation in policy-facing events and discussions with EU stakeholders. Examples include communications around the Cleantech Friendship Group launch in the European Parliament (including messages on the need to fully implement the Battery Regulation and Critical Raw Materials Act) and a panel discussion in Brussels on the Clean Industrial Deal. In addition, cylib communicated about engagement in EU-level policy debates through cleantech networks and events, including the Cleantech for Europe Summit in Brussels (session on Critical Raw Materials) and a high-level roundtable at the European Parliament on “The Bankability of European Cleantech Manufacturing” (published as “Europe has the cleantech innovation – but can we scale it”). Finally, cylib has referenced and supported joint communication materials such as open letters coordinated via cleantech networks, including an open letter calling for an ambitious Clean(tech) Industrial Deal (hosted online by Cleantech for Europe) and communication around the Industrial Accelerator Act open letter.
