Hygienic grey water container with reduced biofilm growth

The aim of the HYGIEIA project is to design a grey water container, and its manufacture procedure, with reduced biofilm growth, which is more effective, long lasting and economically competitive with respect to antimicrobial solutions currently implemented in the context of aircraft water sanitation; while at the same time searching for lighter weight but strong structural solutions. HYGIEIA is based on a plastic container with a wide range antimicrobial coating. The container will be designed looking for the perfect compromise between weight reduction over traditional designs, and giving a sufficiently rigid base for the coating technology while satisfying the requirements imposed by the standard RTCA Do160 Rev. G. The simplest, cheapest and most effective manufacturing process will be identified which is optimally adapted to the coating technology being applied from the point of view of initial surface roughness.
