Smart Separations - Agrifood Innovation Voucher
| Abstract | Smart Separations has developed a proprietary filter that can be tailored to suit many different applications in the poorly explored but very large microfiltration market, from biotechnology to beverage processing. The regularity of the pore size is a unique selling point in many different markets and applications. New filters based on this technology are highly innovative and potentially commercially disruptive. An appealing market is in processing blood from donations more efficiently and affordably than current methods - an established substantial market worth over £400m annually. Having been granted a SMART grant from the Technology Strategy Board to conduct an initial Proof of Market study, we have identified other markets that have less barriers to entrance (e.g., the costly clinical trials that will eventually be required for these applications). In pursuing these other parallel markets, Smart Separations will be establishing its brand and proving the concept, which can then be rolled out to help improve people’s quality of life. |
